SJ Web Site Reviews - Everything SJ

SJ Web Site Reviews - Everything SJ This week I discovered a fantastic site with all the links and information about South Jersey you could possibly hope for. The site, The New Jersey State Library is simply packed with New Jersey references to services, entertainment, facts, and, well, you have to visit to understand the scope of the website. Keep in mind that as a "state" site, you will have to narrow your searches to be specific for South Jersey, which isn’t difficult at all. For instance, I was actually searching for something different in South Jersey – entertainment, Christmas events, something unusual; I found exactly what I wanted by using the Cyberdesk link and from there I was able to pick and choose exactly what I wanted. The choices are many, but I honed in on Are We There Yet for New Jersey - an in depth listing of places of interest in our Garden State. A notable feature of this site is that the links are interconnected so that if you choose one topic of interest, there is a list at the end of other listings that are nearby: a great feature if you feel like hopping about South Jersey on a lazy afternoon.

Concise directions are an added plus to the listings. Here’s a great example of using the site to find one major link that provides options in the area. I chose Fort Mott State Park being an outdoor kind of a person as well as one who would like to learn more about Salem County – it always seems so mysterious to me. I mean I know that people live and work there, but I have never had occasion to actually learn very much about the area. Fort Mott seemed like a good place to start. With 106 acres, the Park boasts much land as well as the history to go with it. Begun as a military fortification, part of the original fort remains, with walls 35 feet thick. Finn’s lighthouse is just outside the park and is included as a point of interest. These listings for Salem County are easy to navigate if you visit: self-guided tours are made easy with pamphlets that guide the visitor and include notes on landmarks.

You may not want to spend hours roaming Fort Mott in the winter with the Bridgeton Historical District close by. As one of nine links listed as being "nearby" Bridgeton’s Historical District is the largest in New Jersey. There are several museums in the town that provide welcome warmth along with Colonial, Federalist, and Victorian history. Bridgeton is committed to restoring its heritage and in doing so provides the day tourist with beautiful and enlightening surroundings. Again, a self-guided pamphlet is provided for navigation ease and the ability to pick and choose your stops in a customized, sequential order. I’m certain that Fort Mott and Bridgeton will provide a complete day of entertainment, but if at all possible, try to stop in the Cohanzik zoo. As one of the last free zoos in America, it provides a cozy, peaceful atmosphere. Keep in mind that this is just one of the hits from "Are We There Yet"; the site can provide seasons of entertainment and I will be looking at more South Jersey goodies in the weeks to come.
