Snow, Rain, and Dangerous Driving?
Here are some general safety tips for your home and when you are on the road during bad weather:
In case of a power outage,
* have an alternate heat source, such as a fireplace or a camp stove with fuel.
* keep alternate heat sources away from furnishings, drapes, and flammable objects.
* provide adequate ventilation around alternate heat sources.
* keep an eye on candlesâ??keep them away from flammable objects, and donâ??t leave them burning if you leave the room or go to sleep
When traveling,
* clean the snow off your windows, outside mirrors, and lights, as well as off the hood, roof, and trunk before you start out
* allow yourself extra time for delays, or postpone plans.
* test road surfaces carefully by gently applying the brakes to familiarize yourself with the extent of icy conditions.
* manually pump brakes or allow the vehicleâ??s anti-lock brake system to work
* keep a warm blanket and water in your vehicle in case you are stuck somewhere for a period of time and need to stay warm.
