by Press Release | Apr 10, 2003
Traditional Highland Music The Stockton Performing Arts Center is pleased to present Bonnie Rideout and the City of Washington Pipe Band on Saturday, April 12th at 8PM. Enjoy an evening of traditional highland music with one of the finest Scottish fiddlers in the world today. The world-acclaimed City of Washington Pipe Band will accompany Bonnie Rideout.

Bonnie Rideout is one of the fieriest Scottish fiddlers of our time, bringing to her performances the evocative music of the Highlands. Her unique style of fiddling along with her vast knowledge of traditional Scottish dance tunes has charmed audiences and reflected the rich musical tradition of her heritage. Bonnie Rideout's bagpipe music and ancient Gaelic melodies have helped her record nine solo albums and appear as a guest musician on dozens of CDs with Sony, BMG and many other labels. Rideout's most recent release, "Scottish Fire" won her the Parent's Choice Award. Another of Rideout's hit CDs, "A Scottish Christmas" (1996), became a The New York Times "Top Ten Holiday Best Seller." Her maturity and intensity combined with the sheer joy that she projects through her performance leaves the audience spellbound: making it an experience like no other. Bonnie Rideout is the only American to hold the honor of representing Scottish fiddle music at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival. Simply stated, an evening with Bonnie Rideout is an invitation to join her in the passion and tradition that is pure Scottish music.

Originally formed as Denny & Dunipace from Washington D.C. with the help of the Air Force band in the mid-1980s, The City of Washington Pipe Band has transformed itself into one of the finest pipe bands in North America over the past 30 years. The Band draws its roots from the U.S. Air Force Naval Pipe band. The Naval Pipe Band blended a mix of American rudimentary-style drumming and traditional Scottish piping to their performance in the late 1960's. The Naval Pipe Band had a strong influence on the young piping and drumming students who became the core of The City of Washington. The City of Washington Pipe Band consistently appears at major North American Highland Games and Gatherings, winning praise and applause for their high-energy performances.
