Slack`s Hoagie Shack Review

Now you don`t have to travel far to experience "The Best of Philly." Slack`s Hoagie Shack, a recipient of this prestigious award, recently opened a location in Mt. Laurel.

While waiting for their food, sports fans can marvel at former Philadelphia teams whose photos grace the walls or watch their favorite sports program on the large dining room television. But you don`t have to be a sports fanatic to enjoy Slack`s. My friend Mary and I went there for lunch recently, and we were both quite pleased with our experience.

Slack`s not only offers just about every type of hoagie imaginable, it has a wide selection of appetizers, salads, seafood, sandwiches, wings, burgers and hot dogs (135 items in all!). Owner Tom Kelly told us that his best-selling items were Teezers, Italian Hoagies and Cheesesteaks. So that`s exactly what we ordered.

The Teezers ($2.99), tater tots filled with cheese, were surprisingly good. Mary`s hoagie consisted of Genoa salami, peppered ham, cooked salami, Capicola and provolone cheese with lettuce, tomato and raw onions. She couldn`t finish the half ($4.65), so I can`t imagine anyone attempting the giant ($9.30). She wasn`t only impressed with the size, she also raved about the fresh quality.

Although my Cheesesteak ($4.90 half, $9.80 giant) was also rather large, I managed to finish every last bite. It was probably the best steak sandwich I ever had, and it just didn`t seem right to leave even a morsel.

Overall, Slack`s Hoagie Shack is a great place to enjoy delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere. They also have party trays and a separate catering menu.

Slack`s is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (They deliver to homes and businesses.) Call 608-0757 to place an order.
