Free, Low-Cost Business Seminars The Rutgers-Camden Small Business Development Center offers free and low-cost entrepreneurial seminars in June in Gloucester, Burlington and Camden counties.

Two free and low-cost entrepreneurial seminars will be offered by the Rutgers-Camden Small Business Development Center throughout Gloucester County.

Gloucester County Library in Mullica Hill will host a free seminar, "Group Start-up Counseling," from 1 to 3pm on Thursday, June 23. The course offers an abbreviated overview to the different topics involved with starting a business. Gloucester County Library is located at 389 Wolfert Station Road in South Harrison Township. Gloucester County College will host the two-part seminar "Starting a Business from A to Z" from 6 to 9pm on Tuesday, June 28, and Wednesday, June 29. The program is designed to provide new entrepreneurs with an overview of such basic issues as legal forms of doing business in New Jersey, registering a business, setting up bookkeeping records, federal and state taxation, payroll, insurance, and licensing. Two free entrepreneurial seminars will be offered by the Rutgers-Camden Small Business Development Center throughout Burlington County.

The Burlington County College Business and Career Development Center will host a free seminar, "Meet the Lenders Roundtable," from 9am to noon on Tuesday, June 7. This forum will allow entrepreneurs to discuss their financing needs with commercial loan officers from local banks. Participants will have the opportunity to have lenders review their business plan executive summary and financial projections for content, form, and feasibility. Registration is free. Burlington County Library in Westhampton will host the "New Jersey Division of Taxation's Small Business Tax Workshop" from 10am to 2pm Friday, June 17. This free seminar will discuss types of organizations and record keeping, and will provide an overview of employment taxes. Burlington County Library is located at 5 Pioneer Boulevard in Westhampton. Six free and low-cost entrepreneurial seminars will be offered by the Rutgers-Camden Small Business Development Center throughout Camden County.

Camden County Store in Gloucester Township will host a free seminar, "New Jersey Certification Program," from 7 to 9pm on Tuesday, June 7. This workshop is designed to introduce procedures for accessing and responding to the state bid process. Discussion will include the vendor registration program (SAVI-II), the unified certification program, and how to get listed with the New Jersey Department of Treasury. Rutgers University-Camden will host five seminars, including "The Basics of Buying, Selling and Valuing a Business" from 1 to 3pm Thursday, June 9. The course will explore such basic methods of business valuation as balance sheet methods, net present value methods, and industry "rules of thumb," along with assumptions made by buyers and sellers in agreeing on a sale price. The basics of the business acquisition process will be discussed from both the buyers' and sellers' perspective. Registration is $60.

"Starting a Business from A to Z," from 9am to 3:30pm on Saturday, June 11, is designed to provide new entrepreneurs with an overview of such basic issues as legal forms of doing business in New Jersey, registering a business, setting up bookkeeping records, federal and state taxation, payroll, insurance, and licensing. Registration is $80.

"QuickBooks: Intermediate," from 9 am to 4 pm on Thursday, June 23, will cover the collection of information needed to produce basic documents required for small business. Participants must be using the software and have at least one month of records to work with while in class. Registration is $100.

"Financing a Business," from 9am to noon on Saturday, June 25, will explain the criteria used by lenders to evaluate a potential borrower. Sources of financing will be explored, including bank and non-bank lenders, the U.S. Small Business Administration, micro-lenders, venture capitalists, and others. The borrowing basics will be directly tied to the contents of a business plan/loan proposal. Registration is $40.

"Writing a Business Plan," from 12:30 to 3:30pm on Saturday, June 25, will introduce the format and components of an effective business plan. Registration is $40.

The New Jersey Small Business Development Center at the Rutgers University School of Business at Camden provides free and low-cost counseling to new and potential owners of small businesses in Gloucester, Burlington, Camden, and Salem counties.
