Trenton Thunder News NORWICH – Mark Fischer roped a single to break a tie in the seventh inning, and every member of Trenton`s starting lineup collected at least one hit, as the Thunder defeated the Norwich Navigators, 7-4, in front of 6,908 fans at Thomas Dodd Stadium.

Terrance Hill (2-3), recorded the win, as he went two-thirds of an inning of relief. The loss (3-8) went to Dave Walling, as he went six innings, and gave up 10 hits, five runs, three earned, two walks, and five strikeouts. Andy Hazlett threw two perfect innings for his fourth save.

The Thunder scored in the first when with the bases loaded, Tony DeRosso reached on a fielder`s choice to score Aaron Capista. Luis Rodriguez then reached on an infield single to send Virgil Chevalier home, and the Thunder had a 2-0 lead.

With one out in the top of the second and Carlos Leon at third, RJ Johnson lifted a sacrifice fly to leftfield to plate Leon, and it was 3-0 Thunder.

Against Thunder starter Rob Radlosky in the home fifth, Erick Almonte reached on a bunt single, and Victor Valencia singled. With two outs, Luke Wilcox doubled both runners home and the Navigators cut the Thunder lead to 3-2.

With one out in the Thunder fifth, Carlos Leon reached third on a three-base throwing error by third baseman Scott Seabol. RJ Johnson then drove Leon home with a sacrifice fly, and the Thunder`s lead was 4-2.

Versus Thunder reliever Carl Dale in the sixth, Nick Leach walked, and with one out Nick Ortiz singled. Then with two outs, Victor Valencia doubled down the leftfield line to score both Leach and Ortiz, and the game was tied at 4-4.

When Virgil Chevalier singled to start the Thunder sixth, Norwich brought Jake Robbins in from the bullpen. With one out, Tony DeRosso and Luis Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Mark Fischer singled in Chevalier, and Damian Sapp`s singled knocked home DeRosso, and the Thunder had a 6-4 advantage.

Aaron Capista doubled with one out against Norwich reliever Joe Lisio in the eighth. After Virgil Chevalier singled, Shea Hillenbrand drove a sacrifice fly to score Capista, and the Thunder`s lead grew to 7-4.

Thunder relievers Terrance Hill, Jim Dedrick, and Andy Hazlett combined to set down the last nine hitters in a row, and the Thunder had evened the series at one game apiece with a 7-4 victory.

The Thunder (59-67) and the Navigators (69-59) will play the rubber match on Sunday, August 20. The Thunder will pitch Nerio Rodriguez (4-6) against Norwich`s Jason Beverlin (7-6). Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. at Thomas Dodd Stadium.
