Union Army Civil War Encampment Coming

“If you’ve ever wondered how Union Civil War soldiers lived, slept, ate and trained, this is an event you’ll want to attend,” said Jim Stephens, HCSV Deputy Director for Education and Interpretation. Throughout the weekend, authentically clad living historians will discuss and demonstrate drill, weapons, medical care, uniforms, equipment and day to day camp life. In the Welcome Center, visitors will be able to see a fascinating collection of Civil War-era weapons from the collection of Mr. Jack Meyers, along with a display on the origins and history of the flag of the United States. This entertaining and educational weekend of living history is generously sponsored by Cape Regional Medical Center.
Historic Cold Spring Village, winner of a Smithsonian Magazine/TCF Sustainable Tourism Award for Historic Preservation and Tourism, is a non-profit, open air living history museum that portrays the daily life of a rural South Jersey community of the Early American era. It features 26 restored historic structures on a wooded 22-acre site. Fun and educational activities for children are offered Tuesday through Friday until August 31st. From June through mid-September, interpreters and artisans in period clothing preserve the trades, crafts and heritage of “The Age of Homespun.”
Historic Cold Spring Village is located on Route 9, three miles north of Victorian Cape May and a mile and a half west of the southern terminus of the Garden State Parkway. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (62 and over) and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Children under 3 are admitted free. Unlimited free admission is available with membership in the Friends of Historic Cold Spring Village.
