Dogs Rule at Waterfromt Park.

by Press Release | Feb 17, 2008
Dogs Rule at Waterfromt Park. The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced the return of two popular canine-related promotions in 2008. At every game this year, an adoptable dog from a local shelter will once again be spotlighted as the Garden State Veterinary Specialists “Dog of the Day” and on Friday, July 11, Dogs & Cats Rule will again present “Bark in the Park” Night in which fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to the game.

The Garden State Veterinary Specialists “Dog of the Day” program was incredibly successful in raising awareness and finding homes for homeless dogs last season. At all 71 Thunder home games, the “Dog of the Day” was taken to the field where they were shown on the video screen and introduced to the crowd along with information about the dog’s shelter. After the game, the dog’s picture was posted on the Garden State Veterinary Specialists Dog of the Day page on www.trentonthunder.com. The picture linked to the shelter’s website so people can learn more about that dog as well as others who are up for adoption. While tracking the number of dogs adopted directly as a result of this initiative was difficult, the Thunder believe that at least 20 “Dogs of the Day” were adopted. The program will operate virtually the same in 2008.

Local animal shelters that would like to participate in the Dog of the Day should contact program coordinator Patience Purdy at patience@trentonthunder.com or 609-394-3300 ext. 104.

Last year’s “Bark In The Park” event saw hundreds of dogs in attendance for a Thunder game. On July 11, the promotion continues with all well-behaved dogs being admitted into Waterfront Park provided their owner purchases a regularly priced ticket to one of the Terrace Sections. Another feature of Bark in the Park Night will be a Pet Products Display on the main concourse throughout the game. There will be displays from at least ten different dog product vendors for fans to browse.

A new twist to the Dogs and Cats Rule Bark In The Park festivities is an online photo gallery in which fans are encouraged to send in pictures of their dogs wearing Thunder or Yankee apparel. Submissions to the “Dogs of Thunder” gallery will be posted on the Thunder website for the 2008 season and each response will be entered to win four free tickets to Bark In The Park Night. The contest will begin on March 1 and will conclude on July 1, 2008. Photos should be submitted to jhurley@trentonthunder.com and will be posted on the website within three days of receipt.

In addition, there will once again be a “Canine Cash Scramble” on the field after the game on July 11. The Canine Cash Scramble will give one lucky fan and their dog the opportunity to go on the field for a chance to win $10,000. The contest will involve the dog attempting to choose the “Lucky Ball” out of one hundred numbered tennis balls that will be spread out on the infield grass. Fans interested in participating in the Canine Cash Scramble must go to Dogs and Cats Rule in Newtown, PA or Pennington, NJ to register for the event. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest. Registration for the event will begin April 10 and will end on July 1, 2008.

All Trenton Thunder tickets including season tickets, mini ticket packages and group outings for the 2008 season are on sale now by calling 609-394-3300 or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
