THUNDER RALLY FOR WIN IN LAST AT-BAT

Trenton 4 9 1
WP- Marty McLeary (8-5)
LP- Martin Vargas (1-4)
(Trenton)- Garry Maddox`s two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the 9th Inning propelled the Thunder to a 4-3 win over Akron. Trenton swept the three-game weekend series.
The Thunder (33-34) had a 2-1 lead after seven innings thanks to the strong pitching of Mike Kusiewicz. He allowed just one hit, a 6th Inning homer by Scott Pratt, on the day with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Akron (27-40) rallied on a two-run single by Scott Krause off Marty McLeary to take a 3-2 lead in the 8th Inning.
Trenton started the 9th Inning with consecutive ground outs by Tonanye Brown and Aaron Capista against Martin Vargas. R.J. Johnson kept the game alive with an infield hit. James Lofton followed with a walk. Maddox hit his shot into left-center that went off the glove of Akron CF Dave Roberts and scored both runners for the win.
McLeary (8-5) got the win for Trenton and is tied for 2nd in the Eastern League in wins.
Trenton is just one game below .500 for the first time since Opening Day, when the Thunder lost at Norwich, 1-0.
The Thunder will host New Britain on Monday to start a three-game series at 7:05 PM. Adam Johnson (3-6) starts for the 1st Place Rock Cats against Trenton`s Jason Sekany (1-1). Copyright © 1999 TheTrenton Thunder and Velcero™ All Rights Reserved.
