(Akron, OH)- Four Akron pitchers combined to hold the Thunder to five singles in a 3-0 win Tuesday night. It was just the 4th time this year that Trenton (37-37) has been blanked.

Akron (33-43) got a run in the 2nd Inning against Trenton starter Casey Fossum with three straight singles. The last one was a bad hop hit off Aaron Capista`s glove by Tommy Bost.

Fossum (1-7) allowed one run in seven innings on five hits. He walked one and struck out five, but took the loss.

The Thunder almost tied the game in the 6th Inning. On a hit by Luis Garcia, R.J. Johnson came home, but missed the plate and was ruled out. That would have tied the game at 1-1.

The Aeros secured the win with two runs in the 8th Inning against Trenton reliever Cory Spencer.

Akron starter Jason Phillips pitched five shutout innings in his first start with five walks and got the win. Martin Vargas struck out the side in the 9th Inning for his 7th save.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Chris Elmore (0-0) goes for Trenton against Akron`s Wilson Sido (0-0). Copyright © 1999 TheTrenton Thunder and Velcero™ All Rights Reserved.
