(Trenton)- Portland broke a 0-0 tie with five runs in the 7th Inning and held on for a 5-2 win Friday night at Waterfront Park.

The starting pitchers, Casey Fossum and Hansel Izquierdo, were the early story as the both kept the opposing offenses off balance.

Fossum, who got a no-decision, allowed three hits and two walks, with eight strikeouts, in his six shutout innings. Izquierdo (1-0) went seven shutout innings and got the victory.

Portland (45-42) broke through against Mark Cisar in the 7th Inning. Eric Gillespie had a two-run single to start the scoring. Quincy Foster followed with a two-run triple to make it a 4-0 game. Cisar (1-1) allowed five runs on six hits in one inning.

Trenton (46-44) broke the shutout in the 9th Inning with an RBI double by Virgil Chevalier, but the rally fell short as Tim McClaskey got the final two outs for his 2nd save.

The series will continue on Saturday at 6:35 PM. Greg Montalbano (0-0) will make his Double-A debut for Trenton against Portland`s Claudio Vargas (6-5).
